Congrats, Chris!

Today dh walked into the above building on campus and defended his graduate project (a fancy way of saying took his oral exam on his project), which represented two years of hard work. And he passed! Woohoo! It's a good thing he passed too since they've already hired him to teach full-time starting in September. LOL. We're so proud of him -- it's not easy to go back to school at our age (we seemed to have missed the memo that said college is for 20 somethings), but HE DID IT!

So, blog guests, what do you think about taking chances? Are you one to jump without a net?

Congrats to your dh! That is huge! I think college is for any age and I applaud you both. I'm not much of a risk taker so I force myself. Like Nationals, every year when I sign up to go I'm terrified but I go anyway.

Huge congratulations to Chris!!! What a fantastic accomplishment. :)

I'd say I'm not a risk-taker, but I think that depends on what you define as risk. By nature of my dh's job, we do a lot of things that most people would be too afraid to do, but it's almost second nature to us now. Of course, you won't find me volunteering to jump out of any airplanes, or suggesting that we both take a couple years off to hike through Europe.

Yay! Congrats on the thesis defense! I'll bet he must feel like someone suck his brain afterwards, but it's a great feeling when it's accepted.

Congrats to Chris! I know he worked long and hard for this and I'm so glad that it's paid off.

Am I a risk taker? I would say that I'm a dream maker. And that, by nature of following your dreams, you take certain risks and leave the rest to fate. :)

Congrats to Chris! Way to go!!!!

    Celebrate well this weekend.

I think I'm taking more chances as I get ahem, older.

    Congratulations to your dh!!!

As for jumping without a net... I think I'm getting better at that with age. Even though I still have my moments of paralyzing insecurity (especially when it comes to my latest ms), :) Isn't conquering the fear part of what makes writing (or anything) such an adventure?

I think thats an awesome question, and a great story about someone achieving a goal. It's funny, because I'm studying leadership, goal-setting, and risk-taking right now.

I think part of what you have to determine is the nature of the risk, the rewards of the risk, and also what kind of solution-seeker you are. Me, I'm an 80% solution-seeker. If you give me an 80% solution today, I'll take that and act rather than a 100% solution at an indefinite point in the future.

So me, I'll sometimes jump without a net, depending on the why involved. I'd certainly take a year or two off work (if I could) and go hike Europe.

I think the key to risks is to enjoy them, and not worry too much. Rarely are we making life-or-death decisions in these cases. =)

Thanks, everyone! I'll give Chris your well wishes. :)

Kim, I remember meeting you at nationals last year and you seemed so confident! Have fun this year!

Honey, has someone suggested you jump out of airplanes? LOL. You wouldn't find me doing that either.

Tempest, I told dh what you said, and he replied that he definitely feels like his brain has been sucked out. LOL.

    A, I like that..."Dream Maker". :)

Kristen and Viv, that's me too! As I get older, I take more risks. I think we realize life's short and we'd better do it.

Shannon, I agree that when we take the risks, we should just enjoy them. By the way, it's funny that you and Jamie are both so math-minded when thinking about things. LOL. It's great. :)
