Bass Notes

The electric bass is here. Dh talked son out of the upright bass, which he still might get (after he's grown a few inches). Amazingly, the new bass matches our cat, who we thought looked like a cow, but we now realize looks like a Fender Squier Bronco bass. Here's what it looks like:

We gave son's Christmas present to him early, because we wanted him to pick out his own instrument, with the idea he would appreciate it more. He'll get some other packages to open xmas morn, but this is the biggie.

So . . . in son's usual fashion (which is single-minded obsessiveness), he begs to take the new bass to his school's music class. The teacher agreed and dh took drove it down, along with a mini-amp from dh's band days.

Now, folks who have met my serious, professorly, computer geeky dh recently might have a hard time picturing him as a hippie in a rock and roll band, but he really was in a former life. He mostly played electric guitar, but did play bass for awhile and the upright bass in college (since music majors then weren't allowed the guitar as their instrument of choice).

Anyway, back to the music class...Son played Jingle Bells for the class, then said (according to a laughing dh), "Questions? Comments?" One kid raised his hand and said the bass was "cool." Another raised his hand and asked if son's Dad could play "Smoke On The Water." So he did. LOL! Dh was truly a good sport. Son's simply cute (in Mom's opinion).

Sidenote: I've been hearing dh downstairs after everyone's gone to sleep playing this cow looking item. I think he misses being in the band. :)

What instruments do you hear in your home? (Kristen -- I know you can list a few!)

How sweet, E! And what a good choice on bass! Woohooo! I'll expect to hear those deep, reverberating notes down here. ;)

    Instruments heard in house lately:

    1. Used to be acoustic guitar.
    2. Used to be electric guitar.
    3. Two flutes...sometimes at the same time.
    4. One piccolo.
    5. One trombone with accompanying dogs barking.
    6. Piano.
    7. Used to have bells appear. Xylophone.
    8. Electric bass with and without various cds.
    9. Standing/string bass aka as a doghouse bass.

I think that's it. For now. Muwhahahahaha... check back after Christmas?

LOL, A! I think we can count power tools and cats. They both make a lot of noise. :)

Dad, I forgot about Cecil's wedding. I meant to ask you about him and Dagmar.

K, I just knew your house was full of the instruments. The Music House. The Music Kids. Very nice. :)

Great present! Sounds like your family is very talented. I love the look of the bass.

Right now we have a keyboard and guitar but I expect our instrument selection to grow as the kids get older.

Smoke on the Water... Wow, does that bring back memories! Very cool looking instrument. I'm sure your son is now the hit of his class!
Unfortunately, I'm not music minded. My husband plays the piano beautifully, though!
